Why We’re All In on Adventure-Ready Gear
Every great adventure starts with a wagging tail and ends with a tired, happy pup. Reddy was born from countless trail runs, beach days, and city walks where we watched our dogs struggle with ill-fitting, uncomfortable harnesses that rubbed, chafed, or just didn’t hold up. We knew there had to be a better way — gear that actually works as hard as our four-legged adventure buddies do.
So we started Reddy in a garage workshop, testing prototypes on our own pack of trail-loving mutts. We obsessed over every detail: the way a harness sits on different body types, how it moves during a full-speed zoomie session, and whether it holds up after being dragged through mud puddles (repeatedly). Our dogs became our toughest product testers, and honestly, they still are. If it doesn’t pass the durability test of a German Shepherd who thinks every stick is meant to be conquered, it doesn’t make it to production.
Today, Reddy harnesses are trusted by weekend warriors, professional dog trainers, and everyone in between who refuses to compromise on their dog’s comfort or safety. We’re still that same small team of dog-obsessed makers, just with a bigger workshop and more muddy paw prints on the floor. Because at the end of the day, we’re not just making harnesses — we’re making sure nothing holds you back from the next adventure with your best friend.

Common Questions
A well-fitted harness allows two fingers to slip comfortably between any strap and the dog’s body. The chest piece should sit above the shoulders without restricting movement, and the back piece should rest mid-back. Dogs should be able to move naturally without any rubbing or chafing around the legs or chest area.
Most harnesses can be hand-washed in cool water with mild soap. For stubborn dirt, a soft brush works well. Air drying is recommended to preserve the fabric and hardware. Regular cleaning every 2-3 weeks keeps the material fresh and prevents odor buildup, especially for active dogs.
Puppies grow quickly and need properly sized gear at each stage. An adult harness won’t provide adequate control or comfort for a growing pup. It’s better to invest in appropriate sizes as puppies develop, typically needing 2-3 different harnesses before reaching adult size.
Dogs often resist harnesses due to improper fit or negative associations. Check that all straps are adjusted correctly – too loose allows escape attempts, while too tight causes discomfort. Introducing the harness gradually with treats and positive reinforcement helps build positive associations.
While harnesses are generally safer than collars for extended wear, it’s best to remove them indoors. Constant wear can cause matting in long-haired breeds and may lead to skin irritation. Dogs should have harness-free time daily to let their skin breathe and fur settle naturally.
With regular use and proper care, a quality harness usually lasts 1-2 years. Signs it needs replacing include frayed straps, damaged buckles, faded material that’s lost its strength, or stretched elastic components. Heavy chewers or very active dogs may need replacements more frequently.
